heritage flight
The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum's Avro Lancaster will be flying over the skies of Abbotsford in 2010. The CWHM Lancaster is one of only two airworthy examples in the world today. Over 7300 were built during WWII. The Lancaster first saw action in the war in 1942 and served with the RAF, RCAF and other Commonweatlth and European countries serving within the RAF Bomber Command.
It has been eight years since a Corsair has been a part of the Abbotsford Airshow lineup. The Corsair is widely considered the most capable of all carrier-based fighter aircraft of World War Two. The example at the show this year comes from the Vintage Wings of Canada.
The range, speed and high altitude capabilities of the P-51 enabled Allied forces to escort bombers far deeper into enemy territory than any other fighter aircraft during WWII. This allowed the continuation and fruition of the American Bomber force's tactic of precision daylight bombing.
